Beep!!/Sunshine Sunshine
"Beep!!/Sunshine Sunshine" is the twelfth single by Japanese rock act Superfly, the group's second double A-side single overall. "Beep!!" is to be used as the theme song for the film Manzai Gang[1][2] and "Sunshine Sunshine" is being used by KDDI's FM radio campaign "Meet the Music 2011".[3] The double A-side is coupled with the song "Different Ways".[4]
Overview
"Beep!!" is described as a "groovy upper rock tune" (グルーヴィなアッパーロックチューン, gurūvi na appā rokku chūn?). In addition to being the theme song of Manzai Gang, the song also has a small role within the film's story.[1][2] On the Recochoku weekly ringtone charts, "Beep!!" debuted at 56.[5]
Shiho Ochi wrote "Sunshine Sunshine" to represent her love for music and her intent to bring people closer by listening to the radio. As part of the involvement with KDDI's "Meet the Music" campaign, Superfly will perform "Sunshine Sunshine" at the Okinawa Namura Hall in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture, on March 20, with the performance broadcast live over FM52 radio stations Tokyo FM, J-Wave, and FM Okinawa. Ochi stated that as she was writing the song, she imagined herself performing it live in Okinawa, but she also expressed her nervousness in how she will be performing it on the radio for all of Japan to hear.[6] The song became available as a ringtone for KDDI's au customers on January 21, 2011, and then for all mobile carriers on January 28.[7][8] This performance was indefinitely postponed due to the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. In response, Ochi recorded an a capella version of "Sunshine Sunshine" and posted it on YouTube on March 18, 2011.[9] In its first week of being available for sale as a ringtone to all cellphone subscribers, "Sunshine Sunshine" debuted at 52 on Recochoku's weekly ringtone charts. On March 2, 2011, "Sunshine Sunshine" became available for individual purchase on the iTunes Store as a pre-order bonus for the full single.[10] For the week of February 7, 2011, "Sunshine Sunshine" was the number 1 Adult Contemporary Airplay for Billboard's Japanese charts.
The limited edition of the single, which will be released in Digipak format,[11] comes with a DVD of Shiho Ochi's "Rock'N' Roll Muncher" performance with the Lemon Bats, featuring four of Superfly's original compositions: "Alright!!", "Free Planet", "Manifesto", and "Tanjō".[12] [13]
